Paediatric physiotherapy

Paediatric physiotherapy involves the rehabilitation of infants with perinatal conditions, conditions and injuries diagnosed in childhood, and injuries sustained up to adolescence. This can include the provision of physiotherapy services in different settings, from acute care hospitals to the community and schools.

Physiotherapists assess, diagnose and treat neurological, developmental, cardiorespiratory and orthopaedic conditions. The main focus of therapeutic exercises is improving function, motor control, muscle strength, and physical endurance and increasing independence. An improvement in function and daily activities would help improve the family’s quality of life.

Commonly known conditions are cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, delayed development milestones and conditions such as congenital deformities, club foot, Erb’s palsy, pneumonia, fractures and bone deformities.
